The Total Environment Centre (TEC) applied for a $25000 grant from the council to produce the 25-minute documentary Waste Not.

Mayor Clover Moore said the documentary was timely and inspires people to be part of the solution to waste, rather than participants to the problem.

The documentary was produced to increase understanding of what happens to waste from the kerbside bin to the recycling and resource facilities.

TEC’s film features waste collectors, gardeners, scientists, and environmentalists.

A spokesperson for the company said TEC spent about $150000 on the film from its own pocket.

It will recoup that by selling the film to other councils and distributors.

“We don’t want another boring film about where you put your bottles and cans,” she said.

“We wanted to make it as powerfully engaging as possible.”

Corporations and councils can buy the film to show during their meetings and inductions, for a price according to who they are.

The TEC have around 100 local councils from New South Wales and Victoria in their database who have expressed interest in the film.
