A new board has been selected to lead the peak body for local government in the Northern Territory.
Heading the LGANT governance team once again is Darwin mayor Kon Vatskalis, who has been re-elected president.
The newly elected board reflects the diverse needs of urban, regional and remote communities across the Territory, said Vatskalis. “With representatives bringing insights from remote, regional, and urban areas, the board is well-prepared to advocate for the unique needs of all LGANT members.”
Vatskalis said LGANT’s new board will focus on working closely with the newly elected CLP government and the Commonwealth to continue collaborative efforts to introduce local government reforms.
“This board is uniquely positioned to address a wide range of challenges, and we look forward to working together with the Australian and Northern Territory governments and other stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for the local government sector,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to outgoing board members for their service and contributions, Vatskalis said: “We thank them for their service and dedication, which has strengthened LGANT’s work and influence.”
LGANT also recently appointed Mary Watson as its new chief executive officer. Watson – who commenced the role last month – had been LGANT’s acting CEO since February.
