After being awarded a public service medal for outstanding work for the NSW government during the 2020 bushfires and covid-19, Kate Boyd has been promoted to Secretary of the Cabinet Office.
The office was established last July as a central state department designed to ensure that policies and proposals submitted for consideration are of high quality and in line with government priorities.
Ms Boyd has worked at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and then the Cabinet Office, since 2007 where she has provided advice on constitutional and electoral law, parliamentary matters, integrity and accountability, privacy and access to government information.
After beginning her career as a commercial lawyer, Ms Boyd worked her way through the ranks of the NSW public service, starting out as a principal legal officer and being appointed general counsel at DP&C in 2019, and adding deputy secretary to her title in 2021.
She was appointed acting Cabinet Office secretary late last year after being both general counsel and deputy secretary.
Premier Chris Minns, who consulted on the appointment with Premier’s Department Secretary Simon Draper, the establishment of the Cabinet Office has helped ensure high-quality cabinet decisions.
“I am very pleased to continue working with Kate Boyd as Secretary, as she leads a team of experts to provide policy and legal advice on some of the biggest challenges facing our State,” he said in a statement.
