Helen Silver has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet effective from April.
The former National Australia Bank Government Business, general manager, Ms Silver has served in a range of senior positions in the Victorian and Commonwealth public service through her career.
Prior to that Ms Silver was Deputy Secretary, Policy and Cabinet, in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
According to Victorian Premier John Brumby, Ms Silver was central in the development of the National Reform Agenda, dealing with key policy challenges, such as early childhood development, preventative health and competition and regulation reform.
Ms Silver began her career in 1980 in the Commonwealth Department of Housing and Construction and moved to the Victorian public service two years later, eventually taking up a management post at the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance.
Ms Silver also held roles at the Productivity Commission and the Victorian WorkCover Authority, before taking up senior positions at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
