Career diplomats appointed to overseas posts

The federal government t has announced the appointment of four DFAT officers to lead Australian overseas posts in the Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Guangzhou and the newly established Embassy in Bern, Switzerland.

Elizabeth Day, who will also be accredited to Liechtenstein, will be Australia’s new Ambassador to Switzerland.

In other othe appointments, Rod Hilton has been named Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands,  Justin Whyatt is Ambassador to Cambodia and Anthony Aspden will take up a post as the next Consul-General in Guangzhou.

Foreign affairs minister Penny Wong thanked High Commissioner Lachlan Strahan, Ambassador Pablo Kang and Consul-General Michael Sadleir for their contributions during their respective tenures.

She also thanked the Ambassador to Germany, Philip Green, who served as non-resident Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein since 2020.
