Georges River Council was named a finalist in this year’s Premier’s Multicultural Communications Awards.
It was recognised in the Business Campaign of the Year category for its communications campaign for the ‘In Good Taste’ event series.
Gail Connolly, Georges River Council General Manager, said that almost half of the Georges River population, 42 per cent, were born in countries where English is not their first language.
“Multiculturalism is something we celebrate here at Georges River, and Council is proud of our work with and for our multicultural communities,” she said in a statement.
“Inclusion and participation of diverse communities is something we consider when planning and delivering our services, including our communications.”
2021 In Good Taste was Council’s inaugural month-long food festival that featured bush tucker walks, local tasting tours, cooking demonstrations and the Little Lunar new year celebration.
The campaign aired in multiple languages on TV and radio and featured in print and online media coverage, reaching over 20 million people.
The languages included English, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian and Vietnamese.
