The Brumby Labor Government is injecting a further $900,000 into adult and community education to help bolster learning and support communities in regional, rural and suburban Victoria.

Skills and Workforce Participation Minister Jacinta Allan said 21 learning centres would share in the round of funding designed to give Victorians access to education in their own communities.

“The Brumby Labor Government is bolstering its support of community learning to ensure people can access courses such as reading, writing and life skills in their own towns,” she said.

“Adult and community education is an important part of Victoria’s tertiary education landscape and caters for a diverse range of people from newly arrived migrants learning to read and write to senior Victorians who simply want to build on their knowledge or skills.”

Ms Allan said the learning centres played an important role in building a sense of community.

“Under this Community Learning Partnerships program we’re not only providing education for all Victorians, we’re also standing up for communities in regional, rural and suburban Victoria,” Ms Allan said.

“By ensuring Victorians have a place to gather and learn together we are securing community lifestyles.”
