VicHealth appoints new CEO

Professor Anna Peeters has been announced the new chief executive officer of the Victoria government’s public health and wellbeing agency.

Director of the Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University, Peeters brings decades of experience of public health and health promotion to the role at VicHealth.  

During her career, Peeters – a professor in epidemiology and equity in public health – has led the way in public health research and her work in progressing equitable health outcomes is internationally recognised.

“Professor Anna Peeters is an exceptional public health expert who has spent her career working towards a healthier and fairer world,” Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas said. “We are delighted that Professor Peeters is joining VicHealth as CEO and I look forward to working with her to improve the health and wellbeing of all Victorians.” 

In response to her appointment Peeters said the role will allow her and the VicHealth team to deliver the agency’s 10-year strategy towards transforming health outcomes for Victorians. “I look forward to working with Victorians towards a healthier, fairer future for everyone.” 

Welcoming Peeters to the agency, VicHealth board chair Nicola Roxon said she is a perfect fit for VicHealth. ”Her career has been committed to improving population health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on equity and evidence-based practices. She is the right person to lead the dedicated VicHealth team.”
