The City of Greater Bendigo has launched a search for a new CEO, with current chief Craig Niemann seeking new opportunities after 16 years leading the City.
The decision was made by mutual agreement between Council and Mr Niemann, who was reappointed for a one year term last December.
He’ll depart the organisation in December after a 40 year career in local government.
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said she expected a highly competitive recruitment process involving international interest, which will be undertaken by recruitment company Davidson.
“We are looking for an authentic leader, with a people focus,” she said in a statement.
They will need to be a strategic thinker and have a track record in delivering timely outcomes. They will also have extensive experience in the government sector and have strong relationship building skills to work positively with Council, staff and key stakeholders.”
She said the new CEO will need to guide planning for an expected population of about 200,000 people by 2050, drive advocacy efforts for major projects, ensure continued financial sustainability, support cultural diversity and inclusion in the community, champion a positive organisation culture, and maintain the City’s role as a regional leader.
“This is a demanding role but one that is also hugely rewarding. Council anticipates there will be great interest in this role locally and across the region, within the Local Government sector and by nature of the role being advertised online, may attract national or international interest.
“We look forward to receiving applications and working through this important process.”
Applications are expected to remain open for the next four weeks, with the aim of announcing a successful candidate by late October.
